WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter to Headline Early Voting Kickoff Event for Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs

Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter is scheduled to headline an early voting kickoff event for Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs’ re-election campaign on July 12.

In a tweet announcing the event, Jacobs said, “I’m excited to welcome my friend and @WWE icon, @_SgtSlaughter, to Knox County in just a few days! You do not want to miss my Early Voting Kick-Off event. Join us at @cottoneyedjoetn on Tuesday, July 12 at 6PM!”

Cotton Eyed Joe is located at 11220 Outlet Dr., Ste. #10, in Knoxville, Tennessee. The kickoff event will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on July 12.

The event is free to attend and guests are encouraged to RSVP on Jacobs’ campaign website here.

Early voting in Knox County, as well as the rest of Tennessee, is scheduled to start on July 15 and end on July 30.

Sgt. Slaughter’s given name is Robert Rudolph Remus. From the 1970s to the early 1980s, Remus had success in the National Wrestling Alliance, American Wrestling Association, and the World Wrestling Federation, now known as WWE.

Remus won the WWF Championship and headlined WrestleMania VII against WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan in 1991. Remus is also a two-time NWA United States Heavyweight Champion. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as Sgt. Slaughter in 2004.

In addition to being a hall of fame professional wrestler, in the 1980s a version of the Sgt. Slaughter character was incorporated into the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toy line, its animated series, and comic books.

Jacobs, a WWE Hall of Famer himself inducted as part of the 2021 class, was known as Kane when he was an active professional wrestler. Jacobs is a three-time world champion and a 12-time tag team champion. As a professional wrestler, he was the storyline brother of 2022 WWE Hall of Famer and legend The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway. Together, the pair formed the tag team known as the Brothers of Destruction.

Jacobs was first elected mayor of Knox County in 2018, defeating his Democrat opponent Linda Haney in that campaign, 66.39 percent to 33.61 percent, a margin of victory of over 32 percentage points.

The general election for Knox County mayor will take place on August 4. Jacobs is facing off against Democrat Debbie Helsley in this year’s election.

I saw Sgt. Slaughter fight the Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden in the 80’s. Thanks for the entertainment, Sarge. You were great! Unfortunately, I don’t live in Knox County.
